Geography

At Kehelland Village School our Geography curriculum is designed to develop children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

We teach Geography as a discrete subject within our Lighthouse Learning curriculum. Where possible we have drawn learning from our local area, We strive to equip pupils with a deep sense of their place in the world by exploring their own locality, undertaking studies based on the Cornish coast, local mining heritage and our immediate village location, as well as  studying a wide range of diverse places across the globe to identify how these locations are linked.

As our learners progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between human and physical processes and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.

We teach Geography in independent blocks each half term. We do this through focusing on an aspect of the Geography Curriculum; either globally significant places/physical and human features, or detailed field work. We use school location and outdoor area to build on the imperative skills of map reading as well as practising being geographers and making observations, asking questions about the world around us.

We encourage an inclusive school environment and ensure that all pupils, including those most vulnerable and those who are disadvantaged, have the opportunity to access the full and broad curriculum through carefully planned support and scaffolding as required.
